Introduction
Azerbaijan Institute of Metrology public legal entity was established on the basis of the State Metrological Service which was abolished, in accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan with No. 1234, dated February 12, 2017. The Institute is the only national service agency that carries out the functions of the state in ensuring the unity of measurements. The Institute has more than 50 years of experience in the metrology, the most advanced technical capabilities, and 172 highly skilled human resources. The Institute is located in a new building with modern style. Currently, there are 8 labs where national standards are preserved and 9 laboratories which carry out inspection and calibration of measuring tools in the building of the Institute. The Institute is the holder of national standards of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Along with transmitting the measurement of quantitative units from the primary state standards to the working standards, the Institute conducts checking and calibration of all types of measuring tools. Legislative Metrology Department of the Institute is responsible for approving the type of measuring tools and recognizing the type that is approved in abroad in the Republic of Azerbaijan as well as conducting the State Registration of measuring tools. According to Article 3.3 of the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated April 5, 2018, No. 1916, control over checking the measuring tools in the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan is exercised by the Azerbaijan Institute of Metrology public legal entity. The Quality Management System of the Institute is internationally recognized. Currently, the verification certificates and calibration certificates issued by the Institute are internationally recognized.
It should be noted that the compliance of the Quality Management System of the Institute with the requirements of the ISO / IEC 17025 international standards was assessed by an international expert group and an appropriate confirming document was submitted. In general, the recognition of the Quality Management System of the Azerbaijan Institute of Metrology at the international level is a great achievement in the field of metrology of the country.
Azerbaijan Institute of Metrology represents our country in two international metrology organizations of which the Republic of Azerbaijan is a member (General Conference on Weights and Dimensions, International Organization for Legislative Metrology) and three regional (KOOMET, MQS, SMIIC) metrology organizations. Employees of the Institute have had long-term training and received relevant certificates in metrological institutes in Germany, the Czech Republic, Turkey, South Korea, Austria, France, Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus. In addition to the Baku city, Metrology Institute of Azerbaijan has further Territorial Offices with appropriate metrological equipment and qualified personnel in five regions of the country. In the near future, the Institute is planning to create new standards laboratories for quantitative units such as fluid consumption, gas consumption, volume, length, force, moisture, acoustics, photometry, colorimetry.
Our main purpose is to ensure the required accuracy of all measurements carried out on the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan by implementing the state policy in ensuring the unity of measurements. Therefore accurate measurements are the basis of quality and safety.
